Your aura is not always the same size, however, as it can expand or contract depending upon a variety of factors such as how healthy you are, how you are feeling emotionally or psychologically at any given moment, or how comfortable you feel with the people in your immediate surroundings. Most people have an oval (elliptical) aura, which is slightly larger at the back than at the front and fairly narrow at the sides, and it also stretches above the head and below the feet. It is made up of seven layers, with the inner layers closest to the physical body comprised of the densest energy, and each succeeding layer being of finer and higher vibrations. The aura is a field of energy or light that completely surrounds the physical body above, below, and on all sides. The aura is the energy equivalent of your whole physical body, the chakras correspond to your brain and major organs, and the meridians and nadis are similar to your veins and arteries, but instead of blood, they carry energy-Ki-all over the body. Perhaps the easiest way of understanding this is to think of the energy body in similar terms to your physical body. In addition to the aura, our energy body contains some active energy centres known as chakras, and a range of energy channels flowing through the body called meridians and nadis. However, the higher frequencies of the energies that make up the aura mean it is harder to see with the naked eye, although it can be detected by some scientific equipment and a representation of the aura can also be photographed using a specially developed Kirlian camera. This auric field is as much a part of you as your physical body-indeed your physical body is really just the densest inner layer of this flowing energy field. However, surrounding and interpenetrating our physical body is another body of energy made up of much finer, lighter, and higher vibrations, which is usually called the aura, the auric field, or the human energy body. The physical body is something we all know about-we can see it and feel it-yet every cell within it is actually energy or light, vibrating at a slow enough rate to make it into visible physical matter. So when we talk about Reiki raising your vibrations there is now scientific evidence to prove that is true! *Editor’s note: Please see the interview with James Oschman in this issue. Even higher frequencies-more than 900 cps-were found in people who were not only healers and psychics, but also followed a very spiritual path, regularly practising deep meditation. But when the tests were carried out on people who used healing energies (such as Reiki) and others who actively used their psychic ability, it was found that their frequencies registered in a band between 400 and 800 cps. Most people in the study registered within the normal range, around 250 cps (cycles per second). She recorded the output at the high-energy sites on the body known as chakras, and some fascinating results were obtained. The electrical output of a person’s whole body can actually be measured using an electromyograph, and some interesting research was carried out on a variety of people a few years ago by Dr Valerie Hunt, author of Infinite Mind: The Science of Human Vibrations. The human body, and the energy field which surrounds and interpenetrates it, is also made up of electromagnetic energy, and every person has a unique vibrational energy signature, or frequency, in the same way as we all have unique fingerprints or DNA. These are all part of the electromagnetic spectrum, and from a scientific perspective the only difference between these various forms of energy is that each oscillates at a different frequency or rate of vibration. Some of these energetic vibrations are very familiar to us, such as sound, light, radio waves, or X-rays. Of course we know that Reiki is an energy-the word means spiritual energy or universal life-force energy-and when we use it in healing, it acts holistically, affecting all of the energies which comprise the human body, or animals, or anything else in the natural world.Įinstein and later quantum physicists have explained that at an atomic level everything that exists in the universe is energy, vibrating and oscillating at different rates, and that physical matter and energy are just two forms of the same thing. Although it certainly isn’t essential to know a lot about the human energy field (auras and chakras) in order to use Reiki effectively, I find that it helps my students enormously if they first gain an understanding of thebody’s natural energy system before I begin to explain about Reiki.

Wolf spiders do well in captivity if provided with water and prey. Both groups of these spiders have good vision and hunt their prey aggressively. Should a spiderling fall off accidentally, it usually runs back up one of its mother's eight legs. Using their fangs, females open the egg sac and allow their tiny offspring to piggyback around until they are large enough to fend for themselves. The Scarborough woof, aka the wolf fish, is a fearsome looking specimen. Females carry their eggs in an silken egg sac until the spiderlings hatch. Scarborough woof and seaweed fritters with brown crab mayonnaise. The biology of wolf spiders differs in that they tend to be completely terrestrial. the colour is basically brown with a lighter base colour, although. This species has an elongated cylindrical shape. When chased, fishing spiders can dive and remain under water for a short while. They can weigh as much as 40 kg (88 lbs). Fishing spiders feed primarily upon unfortunate insects they happen upon, but they can catch small fish and tadpoles. A wolf lopes up to Brooks Falls in Alaskas Katmai National Park where a brown bear is fishing in the rushing water. Dolomedes spiders are called fishing spiders because they can run on the surface of water. It often shows a variation on colour, from a darker shade of grey to dark brown, or even a shade of light violet on its body. The young leave the nursery in about a week. The female remains nearby to guard the eggs and young spiders. When egg hatch approaches, females tie leaves together and suspend the egg sac in the "nursery" of folded leaves. Females sometimes carry a large egg sac in their jaws. Fishing spiders in the genus Dolomedes are in the family of nursery web spiders. Despite the 'gray wolf' name, the wolves coats range in color from black and gray to nearly white. An even dorsal fin extends the whole length of the back, and a similar fin from the vent to the caudal fin, as in blennies. On the other hand, four of the eyes of wolf spiders are definitely on top, but the front four are arranged in a straight line, visible from the top, but definitely facing forward. Atlantic wolffish vary in color, usually seen as purplish-brown, a dull olive green, or blueish gray. With a hand lens it is possible to see the eyes of fishing spiders are on top of the carapace (first body segment) and the front four are arranged with the outer two higher than the inner two. The wolf fish is found throughout Central and South America and can live in anything from drainage ditches to larger rivers. Both kinds of these spiders are large, brown, hairy, and terrestrial. They can grow to massive sizes, with some reaching over 80 lbs. Fishing spiders and related wolf spiders attract attention because of their large size and handsome appearance. These runs can be just as hard as 3D speedruns, but starting out with these speedruns can often be easier. Whereas speedrunning a game on the original Nintendo (NES), you’re only dealing with two buttons. Speedrunning The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, you’re fighting with camera controls, precise angles, more buttons, and even controlling how far in any direction you tilt the stick. Another thing to keep in mind is 2D versus 3D speedruns. For example, I cannot play anything well on keyboard, so I usually opt out of games that are best speedran on keyboard. This is also true for speedrunning.ĭifficulty can depend on a lot of factors. The general consensus on gaming is that low floor, high ceiling makes for a great game. However, starting with a speedrun that’s beginner-friendly can often be a good choice. The reality is, at a high enough level, it’s usually not about the difficulty of the game, but more so the skill of your competition. Many speedrunners hear their chat ask about which game or category is the hardest. The difficulty of your first speedrunĪll speedruns are difficult when you start competing for faster times, personal bests, or world records, some speedruns may even be impossible. The next thing to consider is the difficulty of the speedrun itself. Picking a game that you love, a game you hate, a notoriously difficult game, or a really popular game are all totally fair approaches. There’s something very satisfying about mastering a game when you know how difficult the game was to complete casually. When you pick a game that you grew up with, or have recently played through and had a great time, steadily improving your times in your speedrun just feels that much better. What I have seen more often, however, is a good casual experience leading to a stronger dedication to the speedrun. On the other side of that coin, even though you may fall in love with the game casually, there’s still a chance you will not like the speedrun. This is especially a good approach when you’re genuinely uninterested in the game casually but the speedrun looks really fun. With that said, it’s totally fine to speedrun without first playing a game. It’s much better to find these things before grinding speedrun learning sessions, making splits, and getting wrapped up in the details. But maybe you won’t want to spend another minute with the awful music, mechanics, or something else which bothers you. If you find out casually you don’t like a game there is still a chance you’ll enjoy the speedrun. I’ve seen speedrunners who reset long runs because they didn’t know how to do a section of the game casually as a backup strat.Īdditionally, a casual playthrough will cement your opinion on the game. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen new speedrunners jumping into a game without playing casually, and losing time in their runs for not knowing simple, in-game mechanics. This will allow you to get used to all of the intended mechanics for the game. Personally, I highly suggest doing a casual playthrough of your game or choosing a game you have already played. If that’s the case, you may want to start off by watching speedruns to see which appeals to you most. You may not be into casually playing games. So many games so little time Find a game that you like However, there are some pointers that could get you started on the right track. The main thing about choosing a game is it all comes down to personal preference. Practice where needed and you’ll be just fine. Since you’re speedrunning for your first time, feel free to make mistakes and learn from them. For example, if you’ve already decided on a game or watched the speedrun you can move to the step detailing how to follow along. Go ahead and skip around to the sections you’re specifically interested in. How to Start Speedrunningįollowing that general guide will give you a general idea of what you will need when you are first starting off with speedrunning but feel free to read the details for more information. As a quick guide for beginners to jump in and get started, here’s the general overview of the steps you will need to take. I personally believe the best way to start speedrunning is to not overthink it. I hope this guide works as both a quick speedrun checklist, and a thorough enough guide that you’ll be able to refer back to it when you’re looking into more advanced approaches. I’ll first start off covering the details on a surface level, and then if you need any extra details of how to speedrun, you can keep reading. I went through a lot of headaches and confusion when getting started up, so I figure I’ll save you some trouble. At some point, in 2015, after years of watching speedruns, I found a game that I truly wanted to speedrun. He passed to Darlington Nagbe, who found Hernandez. Hernandez’s goal was set up by a sideline steal by Malte Amundsen. It marked the eighth straight game in which the forward contributed to a score, matching the club record set by Jeff Cunningham in 2001. I did that because I was out of my mind," he said with a laugh.Ĭucho Hernandez had the other Columbus goal on a deflected shot early in the second half. When it went in, Zelarayan removed his jersey in celebration as teammates mobbed him. "When I saw the ball coming to me, I saw the keeper outside the box," Zelarayan said, "so I just shot the ball." He scored from 56 yards out last year against Charlotte and said this was his longest goal ever. It was Zelarayan’s eighth goal of the season. A panicked Richey scrambled back, but the ball went over his head into the net. Chicago goalkeeper Spencer Richey had crept up the field, and Zelarayan cut loose from 60.98 yards, according to the MLS. The Fire had the ball just inside Crew territory when a pass deflected to Zelarayan. One of his nicknames is “El Mago,” which translates to “The Magician,” and that’s an apt description for his game-winner.Ĭhicago was attacking as the game neared its end. More: With Lionel Messi joining MLS, 'Circle it on the calendar,' Crew's Sean Zawadzki saysīut then came Zelarayan’s goal to give Columbus its third straight win. The Crew looked like they might face another disappointing result away from Field when Chicago scored a tying goal in the 88th minute. Lucas Zelarayan scored on a shot from midfield four minutes into stoppage time to give the Crew a stunning 2-1 victory Saturday night over the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field.Ĭolumbus had won only one of its last 15 MLS road matches dating back to last year, including a 1-5-1 record this season under new coach Wilfried Nancy. The Columbus Crew ended its long-standing road woes with the most improbable of goals. The MDRD Study and CKD-EPI equations are the most widely used and thoroughly validated equations.Because the MDRD and CKD-EPI equations employ age, gender, and race, providers may observe that CKD is present despite a serum creatinine concentration that appears to fall within or just above the normal reference range. The normal serum creatinine reference range does not necessarily reflect a normal GFR for a patient. Both the MDRD Study and CKD-EPI equations include variables to account for serum creatinine variation with age, gender, and race. Age, gender, and race all affect muscle mass and, in turn, serum creatinine. GFR is related inversely and nonlinearly to serum creatinine. GFR is poorly inferred from serum creatinine alone.NIDDK also encourages clinical laboratories to routinely estimate GFR and report the value when serum creatinine is measured for patients 18 and older, when appropriate and feasible. Reasons for Using the MDRD Study or CKD-EPI Equation to Estimate GFRīecause mild and moderate kidney injury is poorly inferred from serum creatinine alone, NIDDK strongly recommends the use of either the MDRD Study or CKD-EPI equation to estimate GFR from serum creatinine in adults. Patients under the age of 18: Calculate eGFR using the Schwartz equation for patients under age 18.Ĭaution: It is important to know the method used to measure creatinine in a blood, serum, or plasma sample, as it will affect the formula for estimating GFR in children.ĭetermine which calculator to use. eGFR should be used with caution in acutely ill or hospitalized patients who may exhibit rapidly changing kidney function.Īdults: Use either the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Study equation or the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation. Use of any serum creatinine-based estimate requires that kidney function be at a steady state. Calculate estimated GFR (eGFR) from serum creatinine levels to assess kidney function. The last joint tenant will own the land as a tenant in severalty, and will enjoy all the rights as the sole owner of the property.Ī joint tenancy can only be created by intention or by will, not by implication or operation of law. When a joint tenant dies, the right of survivorship entitles each surviving co-owner to an equal share of the deceased's share of ownership - thus, each joint tenant maintains an equal share with the surviving joint tenants. Often, joint tenants are relatives who have received the property from a will. However, no single co-owner can mortgage, sell, devise, or otherwise convey any piece of the property without the consent of all joint tenants. An undivided interest is an ownership right to use and possess the entire property. However, in some states, the deed must explicitly confer the right of survivorship. Joint tenancy is like a tenancy in common, but the main difference is that the joint tenants have an undivided interest with rights of survivorship. If the co-owners are married, then the form of co-ownership can be a tenancy be the entirety, community property in community-property states, or, less commonly, a joint tenancy. When the deed listing concurrent owners does not indicate the form of ownership, and the co-owners are not married, then the form of ownership is as a tenancy in common. However, unlike joint tenancy or tenancy by the entirety, each co-owner can sell, mortgage, devise, or convey his interest - but not the entire property - without the consent of the other co-owners. For example, if 4 people own a property, then each has a 25% ownership interest in the entire property - the property is not divided in any way. If ownership share is not specified, then the ownership is divided equally. The title to the real estate will list all the owners and their share of ownership if it is not equal. Tenancy in CommonĪ tenancy in common is when the concurrent owners own a fractional interest in the property, which may vary according to owner or, usually, it is divided equally. There are various ways that real estate can be co-owned, which affects the rights and liabilities of the individual owners, but only when the property is conveyed, either through a sale or after death. Concurrent EstatesĪ concurrent estate is an estate owned or controlled by more than 1 person or entity. A sole owner is free to do anything with the property that is within the law - sell it, lease it, gift it, or pass it to heirs without anyone else's permission. The name is derived from the fact that the owner is "severed" from other owners. Ownership in severalty (aka tenancy in severalty) is when real estate is owned by a single person or legal entity, providing the owner with the most complete control of the land. The owner may be 1 or more people, or it could be some other legal entity, such as a corporation. The form of ownership determines the legal rights and obligations of the owners, and will affect transferability and inheritability of the property, and how it would be treated under bankruptcy. There are different forms of real estate ownership that vary according to the number of owners or to some types of property.
